Laboratory equipment

A scientist using a microscopeOur researchers need the most up-to-date equipment to stay at the forefront of cancer research.

Having the latest equipment can also save our scientists valuable time. Equipment is shared, wherever possible, to reduce costs.

It is vital that we learn much more about the biology of cancer. The examples below show equipment that is used on a daily basis to study healthy cells and cancer cells. Without these our work would be impossible.

  • Microscopes are needed so that our scientists can study cells in much more detail, and find out what goes wrong in cancer.

  • Centrifuges are used to separate components, such as DNA, from other molecules within cells. Centrifuges spin samples at a high speed generating a force which isolates the various components for further analysis.

  • Incubators are specialised pieces of equipment designed to grow living cells, including human cells and bacteria.
