Trusts and major donations
Make a difference
Carrying out research into cancer is hugely expensive. We rely on the support of trusts and individual donors to continue our life-saving work.
Below are just some examples of the difference your support could make:
- £1,800 could pay for 2 week's supply of the drug pravastatin for the LungStar clinical trial. This trial aims to discover whether adding pravastatin to chemotherapy is beneficial for people with small cell lung cancer.
- £36,200 could cover the average cost of funding a PhD student for a year, including the chemicals and equipment they need. These talented young scientists are the future of cancer research.
- £40,000 could cover buy a bench-top ultra speed centrifuge – an essential piece of laboratory equipment, used on a daily basis by our scientists.
- £250,000 could buy a piece of equipment called a DNA sequencer which could help identify potential new cancer genes.
- £340,000 could cover all the costs of our Cancer Information Nurses for around one year. These nurses provide a confidential service for anyone with concerns about cancer.
Ongoing support
A number of our donors have chosen to support a specific project over several years. This support is invaluable, as it enables us to plan ahead knowing that funding is secure.
Recognising your contribution
In addition to sending progress reports on our work, we would be pleased to recognise your generosity in a variety of ways, and to discuss any options with you. These could include:
- invitations to meet scientists and senior charity staff at lab tours and small receptions
- naming a laboratory or a research fellowship
- having a plaque on a piece of equipment
- acknowledging your gift in our Annual Review or other publications.
