New treatments
The knowledge gained from our laboratory research is helping us develop more effective, targeted cancer treatments with fewer side effects.
These treatments include:
- Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is an exciting new approach that aims to use the body's immune system to fight cancer.
Our researchers are looking at ways of priming the immune system to recognise and target cancer cells. If successful, this approach could be highly targeted with minimal side-effects. - Stopping cancer growth
One innovative approach to treating cancer is to target the tumour's blood supply, which provides the nutrients it needs to grow.
Most tumours can't grow beyond one to two millimetres across without their own blood supply. We are developing and testing new drugs that could block this supply, and prevent the tumour from growing and spreading.
This research has huge potential and could save thousands of lives in the future.
