Fundraising tips

The main thing to remember when you’re fundraising is to have fun! Because you’re fundraising for a great cause, you'll find that you'll get enormous support from friends and family.

We’ve put together a few top tips to ramp up that Relay fundraising:

  • Set a goal – decide how much money you think you can raise, and add £100! Let all your friends and family know about your target and ask them to help you beat it. This year, we're asking team members to aim to raise £200 each (£17 per month over a year's fundraising).

  • Make sure that at the start of your fundraising you set up an online fundraising page – this is one of best ways you can raise money, and it’s really simple and secure.

  • Start fundraising as soon as you form your team. Fundraising for Relay For Life takes place right up to the event itself.

  • Check out our fundraising toolkit for materials that will help you get the most out of your fundraising.

  • Set up a Donation Station to collect second hand items and donate them to us. We'll sell the items you donate in our shops and they can be counted as a bonus to your fundraising.

  • Brainstorm your fundraising ideas with team members and your Relay Committee. You’ll be amazed at what you come up with.

  • Hold fun events and get everyone involved! Get as much publicity for them as you can by making a list of local newspapers, magazines and websites, and sending them information about your events.

  • Keep in touch with your Relay Committee for ways to promote your events and make sure you attend Team Captains' meetings – they're a great way to meet other teams and share fundraising ideas.

  • Many organisations will match your fundraising pound for pound, and they can claim a tax break by doing so. Why not approach your employers to see if they can help?

  • Contact as many of your friends as possible, asking them to support your fundraising and dedicate a Candle of Hope.

  • Make sure you keep people up to date with your progress, and let them know what's happening throughout the year. Remember to thank them for their contribution.
